WASHINGTON, March 7 -- Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani joined Gov. Kathy Hochul at a Women in Need shelter in Manhattan to highlight a $1.2 billion state investment in universal child care. Hochul emphasized that affordable care is a foundational necessity for mothers to maintain employment and transition out of homelessness. The state is launching a "2-K" program to provide 2,000 free seats for two-year-olds this year, with plans to expand to 12,000 seats by next year.
