WASHINGTON, March 29 -- Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, as submitted a public comment letter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency urging the agency to retract its proposed rule that would preempt state laws mandating banks to pay interest or other compensation on escrow accounts. The senator argues that the proposed rule would primarily benefit banks at the expense of American homeowners, undermining states' authority to impose consumer protections related to escrow policies.  more
